St Winifred's in the Community
Summer Term 2024
We were very proud to be informed of three of our pupils, Caoimhe, Tess and Penny performing in the Royal Albert Hall representing the Children’s Halle Choir.
There wasn’t a dry eye in hall as the children sang so professionally alongside the entire Halle family, as part of the performances scheduled on Sunday BBC Proms 2024.
Lois, Erin and Mia represented Stockport Vikings at the Stockport County Football club, what an achievement! Well done girls, your club and school are proud.
We were pleased to hear that 6 of our pupils were part of the Wilmslow Rugby Festival. Playing against a total of 20 teams from around the North West including teams from Wales and the Isle of Man. We were proud to hear what great ambassadors they were for the school displaying all the core rugby TREDS values.
Well done Louis, Theo, Louie, James, Tom, Conall and all the rest of your team mates.
Marathon Runners...
A huge congratulations to our own Mr Johnston and Miss Brennan who recently completed Manchester and London Marathons in staggering times. Inspirational! Your school family are extremely proud.
Spring Term 2024
While attending a First Aid course with our local charity, Millie's Trust, Mrs Haynes was lucky enough to be part of the celebrations when the People's Postcode Lottery announced that Millie's Trust will be receiving a charity donation of £70,000! What a worthy charity to receive such a huge amount, well done to all at Millie's Trust for your hard work and for the fantastic training course.
CAFOD Family Fast day
The season of Lent began during the half term break, in school we have been thinking about how we can show hope as we give, act and pray during the season of Lent.
Our school family have given generously to CAFOD, raising a donation on Family Fast day. Our GIFT team acted by joining the parish for their Cafod Soup lunch at the Kavanagh centre, talking to parishioners, helping to sell raffle tickets.
A beautiful rainbow shining on our GIFT Team on their walk to the Parish centre....
Autumn Term 2023
Community Christmas Lunch
Our wonderful community came together on Christmas day to provide lunch for over 50 members of the parish, organised and lead by Mary Manock with a team of caring helpers. A feast was served, songs were sung and the Christmas day was brighter for it.
As a small gesture, our art ambassadors and children from Year 3 made Christmas cards and paper decorations for the celebration to be given to guests to take home.
We are thankful to have such a caring community.
Advent Mission - Stepping Hill Treehouse Unit
The Caritas Council have been working extremely hard on our Advent Mission. This year, they have chosen to fundraise for Stepping Hill’s Children Treehouse Unit- a place which serves our local community. The council asked that on Friday 8th December all children wore an item of purple- in addition to their school uniform. Together as a school community, our families made donations to be given as a gift to children on the ward, chocolates, gifts, homemade cards for staff and children who may find themselves in hospital over the Christmas period.
October 2023
In October 2023 our GiFT and Wellbeing warriors attended a Bread & Soup lunch held by the parish in the Kavanagh Centre in aid of CAFOD. Helping to serve refreshments (under careful supervision), chat to parishioners and sell raffle tickets.
It was a wonderful event, together, the parish and our School family raised funds for CAFOD with this event and the CAOFD Harvest Family Fast Day.
