Prayer and Liturgy at St Winifred's

Our faith is part of who we are at St.Winifred’s. Through prayer we are helping to live out our mission as witnesses of God. Below is a list of our school prayers which are recited in school and at home. We also like to use spontaneous prayer throughout the day and encourage the children to pray spontaneously where appropriate, in response to everyday events either in school or in the wider world.

St. Winifred’s Prayer Compendium

Our School Prayer

This is said at the beginning of each Liturgical Prayer in school:

This is our school.
Let love abide here,
Love of God, love of one another, love of life itself.
Let us remember that as many hands build a house, so many hearts make a school.
Amen.

Morning Offering

One of the following prayers is said in class each morning:

Father in Heaven, I give you today,
All that I think, and do, and say.
I give you the good times, as well as the bad,
The times when I’m happy, the times when I’m sad.
Fill me with love and help me to see,
How I can love others, just like you love me.
Amen.

Father in Heaven, I give you today,
All that I think, and do, and say.

My work and enjoyment,

The hard things and the happy things, everything.

May your Son Jesus, my friend and brother,

be with me throughout the day.

Amen

God our Father, we thank you for this new day.
Grant that we waste none of its hours,
Spoil none of its moments or neglect any of its duties.
Bring us safely to home time, undefeated by any temptation,
At peace with our friends and at peace with you.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Father in Heaven I love you.
You are with me night and day.
I want to love you always,
In all I do and say.
I’ll try to please you Father.
Bless me through the day.
Amen.

Alternatively, a daily prayer from TenTen Collective worship will be used.

Grace Before Meals

One of the following prayers is said in class before we begin our lunch break:

Bless us O Lord as we sit together.
Bless the food we eat today.
Bless the hands that make the food.
Bless us O Lord.
Amen.

Bless us O Lord and these your gifts,
Which we are about to receive,
From your bounty,
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Grace After Meals

This may be said when we return to class after lunch:

Thank you Lord, for the food we have eaten.
Thank you Lord, for the world so sweet.
Thank you Lord, for the birds that sing.
Thank you Lord, for everything.

Thank you Lord, for the food we have eaten.
Thank you Lord, for all our friends.

Thank you Lord, for everything.
Amen.

Home Time Prayers

This is said in class before we leave school at the end of our day:

God our Father, we come to say,
Thank you for your love today.
Thank you for my family,
And all the things you give to me.

Guard me in the dark of night

and in the morning send your light.
Amen.

Additional Traditional  Prayers

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father,
And of the Son,
And of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
(With actions)

Hail Mary

Hail Mary full of grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done,
On Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And deliver us from Evil,
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father,
And to the Son,
And to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
World without end.
Amen.

Eternal Rest

Eternal rest,
Grant on to them Oh Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.
Amen.

Act of Contrition

Oh my God, because you are so good,
I am very sorry that I have sinned against you,
And by the help of your grace,
I will not sin again.
Amen.
